Permaculture Design
Are you interested in enjoying and leaving a legacy of food-bearing plants, rich topsoil and a thriving ecosystem? If so, please consider establishing a native food forest using permaculture methods, one that is custom-tailored to your natural site features and the ecology of southwest Michigan. Increase your knowledge, food sovereignty and beautify your site in phases with a professional planting consultation, design, installation and/or maintenance subscription.
Consultation
PHASE 1 begins with a site walkthrough and consultation. Just this step can give you new information, insight and ideas about what may be needed and what is possible on your site.
Maintenance
For installed designs or plant layouts requiring a trained eye, I offer a subscription-style maintenance plan to help organically maximize the health of your landscape’s vegetation through analysis, updates to irrigation, soil and plant checkups, and pruning.
Design
PHASE 2 includes basic site mapping and assessment, followed by the creation of a digital planting design in Google Earth or a rendered image like the one pictured above.
Installation
PHASE 3 is where we define your budget and schedule the work in order to implement your design. This process may include earthworks, turf removal, soil remediation, water management and planting, among other things.
What is Permaculture?
Permaculture, as defined by the Permaculture Institute of North America, is a global social movement centered around the grassroots training of a system of holistic ecological design. It aims to improve the lives of all people while conserving and regenerating ecosystems everywhere. The design system makes use of locational values, ecosystem models, and patterns in nature. It draws on traditional knowledge and modern science. Permaculture is also a personal practice of applying permaculture ethics and principles to one’s life, while exploring and sharing empirical findings about the natural and human worlds.
